For this week's online blog assignment, please respond to the following prompt:
With your knowledge of solving equations, analyze Derek's work with this equation. Is his answer reasonable? Where did he go wrong (Step 1 or Step 2)? What can Derek do to ensure he gets the correct solution?
In your response, answer each of the questions in bold above. Be sure you answer ALL of the questions COMPLETELY. Your response could be in the form of sentences or bullet points.

Have fun blogging! I can't wait to read your responses!
Derek's mistake was in step 2 because he divided 72 and 8 wrong which actually equals 9. Derek needs to practice dividing so he can ensure that he gets the right answer.
ReplyDeletei agree with your comment john nice one
DeleteI agree with your comment because you have a good explanation but at the same time very easy to understand.
Deletestep 2 was wrong because he divded 8 to 72 and he got 8.but the real answer was 9 because 72 dided by 8 equals 9.that was dereks mistake.
ReplyDeletethe mistake that Derek made was in step 2. because when he divided 8 to 72 he got 8. when he should have had 9 because if u do it right u will get 9 or he could have used the calculator
ReplyDeleteHis answer is not reasonable. He went wrong in step 1; his division. 72÷8 does not equal 8. It equals 9. What Derek could do to ensure he gets the correct solution is to plug it in and see if it is actually correct rather than jotting down the first answer you got. He needs to make sure to double check.
ReplyDeleteI like your explanation Daph..... it is better to plug in the solution.
DeleteHis answer is not reasonable. He went wrong on step 1 based on his division. 72 divided by 8 isn't 8 . Its actually 9 . what he can do to ensure he gets the right answer is by double checking as in replacing the variable and solve to see if the equation is true.
ReplyDeletei like how you explained is error Daph.
ReplyDeleteHis answer wasn't reasonable because, Derek made a mistake in step 2. When he divided 72 by 8, he showed that 72 divided by 8 is 8, but 8 multiplied by 8 is 64. But, 72 divided by 9 is 8. 8 multiplied by 9 is 72. What he could do to ensure his answer was correct was to check by using the inverse operation.
ReplyDeleteI like the way you explained the error.
DeleteI like your answer Jenny! It is very well explained and easy for most of us to understand! Keep it up!
DeleteGood explanation Luis!
ReplyDeleteHe make a mistake on second step. the equation is 8d=72 first you use inverse operations so you divided. he get correct on the fist step but the second step is use 72 divided by 8,the answer is 9 is not 8, so he get second step wrong.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Jenny.
ReplyDeleteHe made a mistake at the second step. He did not divided it correct the answer should be nine instead of eight. He was already correct with the first step but he just mad a mistake at the second step of the equation.
ReplyDeletenice one kyla
DeleteI agree with you Anna.Good explanation.
ReplyDeletestep two is wrong because derek divided 72 and 8 and his result was 8 but the answer is 9 that's his mistake.
ReplyDeleteSo far, the first step is correct because you do the inverse operation when it comes to finding the value of the variable in an equation. But when it came to step two, that's when things got wrong. Derek's mistake for step two is that 72/8 is 8, it's supposed 72/8 is 9, because 9 times 8 equals 72. So it's supposed to be d=9.
ReplyDeleteYou're comment was very accurate and indeed correct. Good job Elaine.
DeleteThe mistake was on step 2 when he divided 72 and 8 and the result was 8 even though it is supposed to be 9. The thing they should do is to to ensure their work is to the the check which you have to replace the variable with the number.
ReplyDeleteI like how you want him to check his work. I agree on that Jasmine.
DeleteThe mistake Derrek made was that on step 2 and 3, he divided 72 by 8 and got 8. The mistake was that when he divided 72 by 8 he was supposed to get 9. So that would mean that d= 9.That is why every time you solve for a math equation, you make sure you always check your work.
ReplyDeleteDerek's answer is not reasonable because he divided 72 by 8 and got the wrong answer. He did step 2 incorrect because 72 divided by 8 equals to 9. Because 9 multiplied by 8 equals 72. That is the reason why Derek's answer is not reasonable.
ReplyDeleteI think that Derek went wrong in Step 2 because 72 divided by 8 should of equaled 9. Thus d = 8 in his problem is wrong. I suggest that Derek should practice on dividing more.
ReplyDeleteI think Emigrace is right.
DeleteThe error was that he did everything right except his solving part. Instead of dividing it by 8 (64) he divided it my 9 (72).
ReplyDeleteGood explanation kyle.
